Scaramucci criticizes Trump's reaction to Charlottesville violence

'This is the face of fascism': Bush ethics czar blames Trump's far-right staffers for Charlottesville riot

He added: "With the moral authority of the President you have to call that stuff out".

Asked if that included Bannon, Scaramucci said, "Well, yeah".

"I think the president knows what he's going to do with Steve Bannon", Scaramucci said.

The controversial ex-White House figure asserted Sunday that he "wouldn't have recommended that statement".

National security adviser H.R. McMaster on Sunday dodged a question about whether he could work together with chief strategist Stephen Bannon.

When Stephanopoulos asked if there was anyone in the White House who would tell Trump the statement had been a mistake, Scaramucci noted that most of Trump's staff "may be reluctant to tell him the truth".

"If the president really wants to execute the legislative agenda that I think is so promising for the American people, the lower middle-class people and the middle-class people, then he has to move away from that "Bannon-bart" nonsense", he said.

In his first televised appearance since he was ousted from his White House post, Scaramucci told This Week host George Stephanopoulos that - were he still Trump's communications director - he would not have written the fiercely criticized statement Trump gave on Saturday, shortly after the vehicle attack that killed a 32-year-old woman and injured several more.

"He has to move away from that sort of "Bannon-bart" nonsense", Scaramucci said, apparently combining Bannon's name with Breitbart, the website that Bannon ran before joining Trump's campaign previous year.

The ex-aide was speaking on the ABC News show This Week when he was asked by host George Stephanopoulos about the statement the USA president gave yesterday in which he condemned the violence but not neo-nazis specifically.

Anthony Scaramucci did not go gentle into that good night as he initially promised, and instead treated the world to a dose of his signature tri-state antics during an interview this morning on ABC. "He's got to move more into the mainstream". If he does that, he'll have a successful legislative agenda that he can execute.

Breitbart has close ties with the alt-right movement, an ideology that can be associated with white nationalism. And if he doesn't do that, you're going to see this inertia and you're going to see this resistance from more of the establishment senators that he needs to curry favor with. It's not serving the president's interests.

However, he added that Mr Trump needed to bring in "more loyalists" to carry out his agenda. On Saturday, the president had blamed "many sides".

Mr Scaramucci has spoke to ABC News in his first interview since he was sacked last month.

"I like Steve, but you have to remember he was not involved in my campaign until very late", Trump told the New York Post in April.

He called Lizza's decision to record the call " a very deceitful thing that he did". "I want to be totally accountable for what I did, and obviously I paid the consequences of having that sort of conversation with him".
