Two people were hospitalized in critical condition, said state-funded news agency, RIA Novosti.

The knife attacks happened at around 11:20 am local time.

The Islamic State's Amaq News Agency has since claimed responsibility for the attack, according to the SITE Intel Group, which monitors jihadi activity worldwide.

Russia's Investigative Committee, which probes major crimes, said armed police had "liquidated" the attacker at the scene.

Isis has claimed responsibility for a stabbing attack in Russian Federation that injured eight people, the group's Amaq news agency has said.

Police killed the five attackers, some of whom were wearing fake explosive belts. An earlier statement said eight people had been wounded, but that was later revised to seven. The circumstances, motives, as well as the personality of the attacker, are yet to be clarified.

Authorities say they are considering "possible psychiatric disorders" of the suspect, who was a local resident born in 1994.
