Tillerson not quitting, says bond with Trump good

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said he isn't "going anywhere" when asked about media reports that he was increasingly fed up with President Donald Trump and considering stepping down.

"I'm not going anywhere", Tillerson told reporters at the State Department, adding he would stay "as long as the president lets me".

CNN reported during the weekend that Tillerson was considering leaving his post, saying that the former ExxonMobil CEO was growing frustrated with the Trump administration, but Nauert denied that report.

Tillerson's comments Wednesday indicate he is prepared to remain in his post, at least for now.

Besides policy differences, the CNN wrote, Tillerson was fed up with Trump's recent attacks against US Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is knocking down a flurry of speculation that he is unhappy in his job and may soon quit.

Upon making the announcement, the department's spokeswoman, Heather Nauert, refused to directly address the rumors and only told reporters that the decision-making process at the White House involved many advisers "who may not agree on different situations".

What may be the heart of the problem that has created so much tension between the State Department and the White House is the fact that Trump has not been able to get his own people into the agency. Trump also has sided with Saudi Arabia in its feud with Qatar even as Tillerson has sought to mediate the dispute between the two United States allies.

The sources acknowledged that Tillerson could have been venting after a tough week, but his frustration is just the latest in a long list of times he has butted heads with the president and his administration. "He recognizes that - he's deeply engaged in that work".
