Teen charged in London acid attacks as UK plans crackdown

Teenager arrested after five hurt in London acid attacks

Officers attended and found a man suffering from facial injuries that have been described as life changing.

The Metropolitan Police said one victim had been left with "life-changing" injuries after being doused on Thursday night in the east of the capital.

At the start of the rampage, a 32-year-old moped rider was approached as he drove along.

The final attack occurred at 11:37, when a 33-year-old man had liquid sprayed on his face while he was riding his moped on Chatsworth Road.

The assaults appeared to be linked and two involved victims having their mopeds stolen, they added.

It is not yet known what the reason is behind the attacks but police are advising those who ride motorcycles around the city to be extra vigilant.

The issue was highlighted earlier this year when a man flung acid across a crowded London nightclub, injuring 20 and leaving two people blinded in one eye.

A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and robbery.

Police said the victim was taken to the hospital and the injuries are not believed to be life threatening or life changing.

Clark said "I'm aware of rumors circulating that the victims were all food delivery riders set up in advance of the attacks".

A teenager was arrested by police in connection with acid attack cases in London, officials said. However, I would like to ask the public for their help.

At 11.18pm, police received a call to a similar incident, a robbery in Cazenove Road, Stoke Newington, where a corrosive substance had been thrown. A witness saw police throwing bottles of water over the first victim to try to wash away the burning liquid.

The use of acid in attacks has even spread to children as young as 12 who have been arming themselves with substances "for self-defense". CNN reports that the number of incidents went from 166 in 2014 to 261 in 2015 to 454 in 2016, and authorities say the trend is continuing this year.

People who attack using acid may soon face tougher punishments, including life imprisonment, Britain's Interior Minister Amber Rudd said Sunday after a spate of incidents in London in recent months.
