Sensex climbs 124 pts, Nifty above 9900

Market Now: RIL, Wipro most active in terms of volume

During the week, the Sensex registered a rise of 8.14 points, or 0.02 per cent, while the Nifty rose 28.90 points, or 0.29 per cent.

"Shares of RIL, a market heavyweight, soared 3.88 per cent to Rs 1,588 (at 3.07 p.m.), after the AGM wherein the company announced its JioPhone, a day after its impressive quarterly results on the back of higher petrochemical margins", said Dhruv Desai, Director and Chief Operating Officer of Tradebulls.

Index heavyweight Reliance Industries rose almost 4 per cent after the company reported its highest quarterly consolidated net profit of Rs 9,108 crore for the three months to June on the back of higher petrochemical margins. Asian shares ended lower after the European Central Bank announced no changes to its stimulus policies, but European shares traded higher.

Indian shares rose on Friday to post a third consecutive weekly gain, with Reliance Industries Ltd hitting it highest in over 9-1/2 years after posting strong quarterly results and announcing the launch of a low-priced, 4G-enabled phone. European equity markets were trading higher in early afternoon trade.

The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the BSE, which opened at 32,035.88 points, closed at 32,028.89 points - up 124.49 points, or 0.39 per cent, from the previous close at 31,904.40 points. Coal India (up 2.66 per cent), Kotak Bank (1.90 per cent), TCS (1.87 per cent) and Infosys (1.11 per cent) had a field day. Losers included Pharma (0.87 per cent), Realty (0.76 per cent) and Infra (0.57 per cent).

The stock was the biggest gainer on both the key benchmark indices during the day. Turnover in the cash segment jumped to Rs 29,346.72 crore from Rs 25,835.64 crore yesterday.

The volume chart was led by Jaiprakash Associates with trades of over 9.60 million shares. The market capitalisation of listed firms on the NSE stood at Rs 1,29,97,646 crore.
