Salary Data Show Gender Pay Gap in Trump White House

Donald Trump has 'spent time at Golf clubs once every five days as president'

When Mark J. Perry, an economist at the conservative think tank The American Enterprise Institute, analyzed the data he found that "The typical female staffer in Trump's White House earns 63.2 cents per $1 earned by a typical male staffer", Perry writes.

"Half the men working at the White House make $95,000 or more annually, while half the women $70,500 or less".

The difference of $20,500, calculated through analysis of the White House's annual report to Congress, is said to be down to women doing "lower ranking" jobs.

When calculating the averages, Roll Call omitted the three employees who are taking no salary, including the president's daughter, her husband Jared Kushner, and a former Baltimore real estate developer.

There are, of course, women making high salaries at the Trump White House Office. Twenty-two employees are paid that salary and six of those are women. Press Secretary Sean Spicer, White House Counsel Donald McGahn and chief strategist Stephen Bannon are among the men in that list.

So far, the White House has not responded to CNN's request for a comment.

Past reporting indicates the disparity is not new to the Trump White House - though it may be more pronounced. "I will always have your back", Trump said, addressing the men and women serving in the US military.

In April, Ivanka Trump told her four million Twitter followers it was time to close the gender pay gap, writing, "women deserve equal pay for equal work".

CNN calculated the gender gap using employee names and research.
