The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) platinum certification, which requires more than one million sales, is rare for digital-only albums.

It's unclear if Tidal and Jay Z plan to keep the album as an exclusive indefinitely, or eventually release it to Apple Music, Spotify and other music streaming services. The RIAA revamped its Gold & Platinum Awards Program on February 1, 2016, growing from a pure album sales certification process to one that includes tracks and streams.

The RIAA also updated Jay-Z's info on its website to reflect the new stats, sharing that 4:44 has sold one million certified units in less than a week.

The rapper, 45, continued, "Shout-out to Jay-Z - he did it again. Another Platinum album adds to an already iconic career", RIAA CEO Cary Sherman said in a statement released today.

From changing his name to Jay-Z, to birthing twins, to releasing the album 4:44, Jay-Z has had quite the year so far in all aspects.
