Former coach Nutt sues Ole Miss

Mississippi head coach Houston Nutt leaves the field after losing to Vanderbilt 30-7 in an NCAA college football game in Nashville Tenn. Former Mississippi coach Houston Nutt has filed a civil lawsuit against

The suit claims the school, particularly coach Hugh Freeze and athletic director Ross Bjork made "off the record" comments that created a "false narrative" about Nutt in relation to the investigation.

"During the 10 days leading up to the crucial weekend recruiting event, Coach Freeze initiated "off the record" conversations with numerous sports journalists for the specific objective of creating multiple false and misleading news stories, Tweets and other social media comments supporting the above-referenced false narrative, i.e., that the NCAA's focus was on the former football coaching staff and Houston Nutt in particular".

Oh yes. There will be lawyers.

As Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze's opening statement at SEC media days wore on and on Thursday, it was impossible not to wonder if Freeze was going to somehow filibuster his way through his allotted 30-minute time for questions.

The school self-imposed some penalties, but is defending Freeze, who could face major sanctions if it was determined that he failed to monitor the program effectively.

When his contract was bought out at Ole Miss, he signed a separation agreement in November 2011 that he alleges in his lawsuit was violated. For the most part, Freeze did not address the lawsuit or the NCAA investigation, instead offering plenty of life-coach platitudes-"mental toughness is the secret sauce"-and deflecting questions about how he felt about the case".

Nutt now works as a television analyst for college football. He claims that school officials made false statements about him during an ongoing NCAA investigation. The initial notice of allegations were filed in January 2016.

Wednesday was a chance for Ole Miss football fans to get a good laugh.

"I would love to share my opinions on it, but it's a legal case and I just can't comment on it", Freeze says in the video. He went there after going 75-48 at Arkansas from 1998-2007.

Reports from various media outlets, often quoting anonymous sources, indicated the university claimed that most of the alleged violations occurred during Nutt's time as coach. He won back-to-back Cotton Bowls before posting a four-win season in '10 and a two-win season in '11.

Former Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt has sued the university, alleging defamation of character related to how the school handled an NCAA investigation.
