China urges India to correct mistakes by withdrawing border troops

India China dispute

Under the headline, "India will suffer worse losses than in 1962 if it incites border clash" the newspaper said that New Delhi needed to be taught "a bitter lesson" for allegedly trespassing across the border in Sikkim border, known in China as Donglang.

China Wednesday urged India to immediately withdraw its border troops that have crossed into Chinese territory and correct its mistakes with practical actions.

In December 1996, when then state President and Communist Party of China (CPC) General Secretary Jiang Zemin visited Pakistan after a trip to India, he made a very significant statement before the Pakistan National Assembly.

The top imports include electrical machinery and equipment, fertilisers and antibiotics.

Both dailies, however, referred to India's concerns over the road in Dokalam close to the narrow chicken neck area in the tri-junction of India, China and Bhutan border as it could cut off a vital link with India's north-eastern region. "There is no dispute among our countries that Doklam belongs to China", he said. Meanwhile, the Chinese media rhetoric has gone shriller - talk of war being an option and reminders of India's humiliating defeat in the 1962 war.

The Indian embassy note quoted a Chinese note as saying that the border between Sikkim and Tibet had been officially defined, and there was no divergence or disputes in the map drawing as well as in practice.

"What is shocking is that the India border troops entered into the Chinese side of the delineated border in the Sikkim section which is serious in nature", he said. Bhutan, however, has no diplomatic ties with China and it is supported militarily and diplomatically by India.

China on Wednesday accused India of "trampling" on the Panchsheel principles and asked New Delhi to "correct its mistakes" as soon as possible by pulling back troops from the Sikkim sector where the two armies have been in a stand-off for almost a month. "It is reportedly anxious that the Chinese road construction may represent a significant change in the status quo with serious security implications for India, according to its foreign ministry".

"China's construction of road in Doklam is an act of sovereignty on its own territory".

The report further said, "We firmly believe that the face-off in the Donglang area will end up with the Indian troops in retreat".

Quoting the note, Geng said, "The Indian government would like to add one more thing that the boundary has already been demarcated as well on the ground".

The former prime minister had pointed out to China that it was claiming sizable part of Bhutan's territory. China and Bhutan are engaged in talks over the resolution of territorial claims. The fact that Tibet's spiritual leader Dalai Lama resides in India has also been a sticking point between the two countries.

Now the tensions are aging growing between the two nations as both India and China claim that, a lot has changed since 1967 and none of them are weak to back off if the situation of war arose now.
