Apple supplier Foxconn to set up LCD factory in Wisconsin

The Latest Walker says Foxconn incentives tied to new jobs

Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Foxconn plans to make a $10 billion capital investment in Wisconsin by building a campus with 20 million square-feet of floor space that will house up to 13,000 workers who will build LCD panels for flat-screen televisions. The company will invest $10 billion for the plant and will create at least 3,000 jobs "with the potential for up to 13,000 in very near future", Trump said.

Eventually, Foxconn is planning to name multiple investments in multiple locations, likely in two or more states, three officials close to the negotiations confirmed to Crain's.

"The construction of this facility represents the return of LCD electronics and electronics manufacturing to the United States, the country that we love".

Gou made the announcement Wednesday at the White House flanked by Vice President Mike Pence, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan, in whose congressional district the Foxconn plant will be located.

Trump echoed the sentiment shortly after winning the election, telling The New York Times it was his goal to "get Apple to build a big plant in the United States, or many big plants".

"One thing we know about this President is how committed he is to reviving American manufacturing and bringing jobs".

Foxconn intends to build a manufacturing plant in southeastern Wisconsin that will make liquid-crystal-display screens, the type used in everything from computers to vehicle dash panels. States such as Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas are also vying for Foxconn contracts, though it's unclear if those states received one or not.

"Walker's speech when he mistakenly announced Foxconn would invest "$10 million dollars" in the state.

Though there was no comment from Apple CEO, but Trump said he had talked to Cook and he was going forward with it. After discussing with six other states, Foxconn decided on Wisconsin and will bring 3,000 new jobs initially.

Tai Jeng-wu, CEO of Foxconn's Japanese unit Sharp Corp., said in June that six USA states were being evaluated for a possible location for a plant to make displays.
