Bound flight diverted after woman tries to open emergency exit door

Houston-bound Southwest flight diverted to Corpus Christi due to disruptive passenger, airline says

A statement from the airline read that the captain of flight 4519 made a decision to land at Corpus Christi International Airport after the crew became concerned about the behavior of one of the passengers.

A disruptive passenger was dragged off a Southwest Airlines flight after she tried to open the emergency exit (pictured, left and right).

Passenger Henrietta Mokwuah told news station ABC13 that after pacing up and down the aisle, the woman "tore off a piece" of the emergency exit door.

She had observed the irrational passenger attempting to open the exit door in mid-flight. "Erratic passenger never should have been allowed on flight".

"As my kids say, I used my 'mommy voice, ' so I did command presence", Minchew said.

Other passengers on the plane report that an off-duty police officer named Pamela Minchew and a male passenger took down the disruptive person and restrained her for the remainder of the flight. "She had no choice but to identify herself as a law enforcement officer and take immediate action", Cleveland ISD Police Chief Rex Evans said late Sunday after speaking with Michenow. "But the staff handled everything very well". Local authorities met the aircraft at a gate and removed the passenger, the airline said.

The flight carrying more than 170 passengers and crew later continued on to Houston, about four hours behind schedule.

"Then all I saw was the look of fright in the flight attendant's face, and I knew something was going on", she said.

Video posted to Twitter by passenger Kristy Gillentine shows security allegedly removing the woman.

The incident was being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation since it happened in the air.
