UK Labour leader accuses Theresa May of 'pandering' to Trump

US President Donald Trump appears to be fanning the flames of worldwide conflicts rather than defusing them, but the United Kingdom under Labour leadership would not follow Washington blindly, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said Friday.

The Labour Party's leaked election manifesto pledges a complete overhaul of the United Kingdom energy market, centred around ambitious renewables targets and nationalisation.

Recent U.K. governments, both Conservative and Labour, have joined USA -led military interventions in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and against the Islamic State group in Syria.

"It doesn't make me a pacifist".

He said he supported military action "as a genuine last resort" but accused recent British and US governments of "bomb first, talk later" policies.

Corbyn said that he realized that military action may be necessary "as a last resort", but vowed to focus on defusing tensions.

"But that is very far from the kind of unilateral wars and interventions that have nearly become routine in recent times".

May's Conservatives see Corbyn's opposition to military action and nuclear weapons as a major weakness to be exploited in campaigning for the June 8 election.

Britain has confirmed that the RAF will join Russian, French and American air forces in targeting Daesh militants in Syria.

Citing claims that the Labour programme would cost every family £4,000 a year, Mrs May said: "It's a manifesto that is 100% Jeremy Corbyn with costings that are 100% Diane Abbott".

He also said the War on Terror and regime changes had "sometimes they have made the world a more unsafe place".

Mrs May said the leaked draft of Labour's General Election manifesto was a "multibillion-pound ideological wish list of deliverable promises" with a funding shortfall estimated to be "at least £30 billion".

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has told an audience at Chatham House he would use military force in line with global law as a last resort, while condemning Britain's "routine" wars around the world.

"Britain deserves better than simply outsourcing our country's security and prosperity to the whims of the Trump White House", he said, adding that while he wanted a strong relationship with the U.S, he would also speak his mind.

"While Theresa May seeks to build a coalition of risk and insecurity with Donald Trump, a Labour government will refocus Britain's influence towards cooperation, peaceful settlements, and social justice", he added.
