Time for Mehbooba to hand over Kashmir to President: Defence expert

Darbar move J-K government summer capital

Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday alleged that a section of national media, particularly TV channels, are painting all Kashmiri youth with same brush while reporting on the stone-pelting incidents in the Valley.

"Before him (PM Modi), a Prime Minister had also desired to go to Pakistan for over ten years".

"The PDP-BJP Alliance has risked the very sustainability and survival of electoral democracy in the State and yet the Chief Minister prefers to pat her own back and bury her head in the sand", the Spokesperson said.

The civil secretariat functions here for six months of summer and in Jammu for six months in winter as part of a more than century-old practice called Darbar Move started by the then Maharaja. "They have so much potential that they can prove themselves anywhere in the country", she said.

Mehbooba said that everyone is concerned about the situation in the state but "we should keep in mind that it is not for the first time that we are passing through such situation".

"Modi's policy on Jammu and Kashmir has been a failure and disaster. The situation will improve soon", she was quoted as saying while asserting that every local youth was not a stone pelter.

She said the current situation in the Valley is because of the fact that the previous Government didn't carry forward the process initiated by the late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and ex-PM AB Vajpayee. "We are facing challenges not because of the coalition government but because of the situation in Kashmir that has been existing for a long time".

"The media should not to harp on negativities and instead focus on the similarities and help in reducing tensions and acrimony among people", she said. "For 22 years, famous leader (Sheikh Abdullah) fought for self determination and plebiscite but despite that he was compelled to sign Indira-Sheikh accord", she said.

Earlier, the Chief Minister visited the Manwan village of Awoora and conveyed her sympathies to the bereaved family of constable Muhammad Qasim who was killed in south Kashmir's Kulgam on May 1 when a bank cash-van was attacked by militants.

Police said the students threw stones at the security personnel, who baton charged them.
