Stone vows to cooperate with Senate committee

Stone has Nixon tattooed on his back

Political strategist and Trump confidant Roger Stone said he has spoken to the president "very recently" in an interview with The View Wednesday morning.

Stone also told WLS he strongly supports Trump's decision to fire Comey. "Have not spoken to Roger in a long time - had nothing to do with my decision". "We talk politics. Beyond that, I'm not going to characterize it because if I do then that indiscretion would most likely mean that those conversations would end", he told The Washington Post in April.

When confronted about the subject by Matt Lauer on "The Today Show" on Thursday morning, Stone insisted that "I have always taken the position that conversations between the president and I, in the terms of the scope and the content and the frequency, would remain private". A source familiar with the conversation - which took place after Comey appeared at a hearing last week on Capitol Hill - confirmed to CNN that Stone advised Trump to sack the Federal Bureau of Investigation boss.

"I've tried to get him to disrobe but he won't do it", Behar said, joking about having the former campaign operative for President Trump disrobe to show the tattoo on his back.

"Since members of both of [the House and Senate Intelligence] committees have disparaged me in public, I'd like the opportunity to testify in public", he said. I don't need a subpoena.

That dynamic has been tested with Trump's rise, as Stone, who had come to be regarded in recent years as a gabby relic of Nixon era political trickster culture, rose up again to become an active player in presidential politics when Trump, his friend and former client, grabbed hold of the GOP primary race.

Stone said he would "welcome a special prosecutor" to examine any collusion between high-ranking Trump aides and Russian Federation, explaining that Attorney General Jeff Sessions' "partisanship" makes him "the wrong person to pursue this".

When asked how he would respond to a White House official saying it had been months, Stone replied "that would be incorrect".
