Maguiresbridge bodies: Death of woman treated as murder

51 year old Concepta Leonard and 55 year old Peadar Phair were pronounced dead after the attack at a house in Lisnaskea yesterday afternoon.

While a third person, a man aged in his 30s who is believed to be Ms Leonard's son, suffered stab wounds. He is understood to have raised the alarm.

A talented musician Conor was recovering from his injuries in the South West Hospital in Enniskillen.

"To think that anyone would do that, to hear it so close to home is devastating".

"She was a devoted musician, teacher and of course Mother to her awesome son Conor, who we are all thinking about at this time".

"We will always remember Connie with great fondness for her affection, dedication and energetic outlook shown in all areas of her life; as an fantastic mother, daughter, sister, music teacher and friend".

Her son Conor, would have been seen playing the bodhrán - a drum used in Irish traditional music - at St Patrick's Day and other celebration events. "It breaks my heart to think what he must have witnessed", said a local woman.

Richie McPhilips is a former SDLP MLA for Fermanagh South Tyrone.

"I was at the same school as Peadar, I know his family as well".

Her father Dinny is synonymous with traditional music and the tuition of music, teaching young people to play the fiddle, banjo and the whistle.

Local Irish music group Newtownbutler Comhaltas extended their sympathy to the Leonard family saying it would remember Ms Leonard with great fondness for her affection, dedication and energetic outlook shown in all areas of her life.

Det Ch Insp Eamon Corrigan said: "Post mortem examinations will be carried out in due course and, at this stage, we are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident".

They have confirmed they are treating Ms Leonard's death as murder.
