Wegmans recalls hash browns that may contain golf ball materials

McCain Recalls Frozen hash browns that contains pieces of golf balls

A recall of hash browns that could be contaminated with golf ball materials has been expanded to include Wegmans supermarkets in the Bay State.

Last week, McCain recalled Harris Teeter brand hash browns manufactured on January 19, 2017.

The company is recalling 2-pound bags of Harris Teeter Brand Frozen Southern Style Hash Browns in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, District of Columbia, Delaware, Florida, Georgia and Maryland.

So far, there have been no reports of injuries tied to the recalled products.

The recall is largely silent as to how golf ball chunks ended up in the product manufactured by McCain Foods USA.

The production code on the product is B161021. Distribution occurred after the date of October 21, 2016. McCain stated in the latest recall announcement it received two more complaints of hard plastic or rubber pieces in frozen hash brown product since Friday's original recall.

The company said it does not known how the golf ball material got into the product, but it could pose a choking hazard or injury to the mouth.

Consumers are advised to throw the products away or return them to the store.

"Food safety remains a top priority for McCain Foods USA, Inc. and we have full confidence that all appropriate steps are being taken to protect our consumers, the recall announcement said". Frozen items made on other days are not impacted by the recall.
