New Surface device that runs Windows Cloud — Microsoft rumor

Microsoft Surface Phone

If Microsoft is indeed working on a low-priced Cloud Book aimed for educational use, the company might opt for an ARM processor considering that the Windows-maker has already announced that the full Win 10 operating system will run on ARM with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC being pegged as the most favored candidate for Windows 10 ARM machines. For this reason, alone it sold off the then acquired Nokia mobile business a year ago.

Microsoft might be about to reveal something special after the company announced details of a new launch event next month.

There will be a big event for Microsoft fans in New York City on May 2. Going by the hashtag '#MicrosoftEdu, ' the Redmond giant has been using, the event will be focused on the educational project, which could be the Windows 10 Cloud project.

Sources have told The Verge that the event is unlikely to feature a Surface Pro 5 or Surface Phone, however some new Microsoft hardware is likely to be unveiled. The users will be able to download and install the Win32 as well as Universal Windows Platform Apps from the Windows Store on the Windows Cloud. According to the report, the product might be a lot cheaper than other versions of the Windows 10, such as Windows 10 Home or Pro.

Microsoft has chose to dedicate this event to education and creativity which might be based on this week's release of Windows 10 Creators update. With that presumption comes the rumors that Microsoft will be highlighting its forthcoming Windows 10 Cloud product at the event.

MSPowerUser claims that it knows of a device called "CloudBook" and said rumors suggest that the CloudBook will have an ARM processor, possibly the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, which Microsoft has been targeting to run x86 apps in emulation mode.

Microsoft has not specified just what Belfiore's new role is within the company, but the Mashable interview does refer to Belfiore as an "education sponsor and advocate in the Windows team".

Google now has a big share of the education market thanks to the low-priced Chromebooks it offers in collaboration with various OEMs, as well as the Chrome OS software.
