Kassian scores in 3rd, Oilers beat Sharks 1-0 in Game 3

The Edmonton Oilers seen practicing earlier this week have gone back to the drawing board in search of a way to even up their series with the San Jose Sharks

Edmonton turned the tables in terms of territorial dominance while enjoying a 12-4 advantage in shots during the second period, but the game remained scoreless after 40 minutes.

The game was completely different from the first two - when each team dominated the other. "He has been tremendous for us". He had 18 assists and 21 points in 24 postseason games past year with the Sharks.

"It doesn't matter how well a goalie is playing, you've got to find a way to get to him", Sharks captain Joe Pavelski said. "Just kind of feel a little bit fresher today". And we're playing well, doing it the right way. David Schlemko's clearing attempt hit Kassian and deflected in front of the Sharks net.

"It's cool, but we all know there is a lot of hockey still to be played", Kassian said. It's a tough bounce. Jones play has also been confounding - he's generally played solid for the greater part of the series, but the goals he has surrendered have nearly all been ones in which he would have like to have had back - his five hole become increasingly suspect. While the possession numbers in game three were very even, I'd say the Oilers had the most risky chances (hockeystats.ca had the Sharks ahead in total scoring chances, but I'm referring to the eye test in terms of high-danger chances - your mileage may vary). Kassian also had the game-winning goal, a short-handed strike, in Game 2.

Those in attendance at Sunday night's viewing party said it was a fantastic experience.

Zack Kassian did in the Sharks again. Thornton hasn't played since, but is skating and remains day-to-day. He has never won a Stanley Cup.

Jones finished with 21 saves. "You just got to work for those bounces and stay confident". Forget hits and forget grit: try to match the OIlers' speed game.

Coach Peter DeBoer's team shouldn't expect things to get easier over the next two games in northern California starting when the Sharks and Oilers meet in Game 3 on Sunday night.

After relinquishing control of the best-of-seven series, the Sharks now trail Edmonton 2-1.

"We want to get that fixed", DeBoer said. As good as Connor McDavid is, and my word is he good, the Oilers will need secondary scoring to keep opponents honest. I know I said the Oilers had the goaltending edge in this series, but I don't think any of us predicted it would be by such a wide margin.

Starting in the second period, the Oilers were able to double their total of shots on goal in the first. Oilers winger Leon Draisaitl was replaced on the top line in the second period by Anton Slepyshev.

The Sharks' power play has suffered from the absence of dominant center Joe Thornton. "It's simple to say, but we've got to be better".

The Sharks have not scored since Melker Karlsson's overtime victor in Game 1. Thornton had two shots and contributed with just over sixteen minutes of ice time. It's probably not how the Oilers drew it up, but two shorthanded goals were enough for them to tie up this series before heading to San Jose.

Game 5 is scheduled for Thursday in Edmonton. F Mikkel Boekder was scratched to make room for Thornton.
