"Confidence is high for a significant heavy snow and strong wind event affecting the Mid-Atlantic and New England Monday night and Tuesday", the National Weather Service said in a statement. Why do you need to know?

Air travellers faced major headaches Monday as a hard-hitting late-season winter storm began to snarl flights from the Midwest into the Northeast. And that means lots and lots of cancelled flights.

On Tuesday, when bulk of the storm is expected to coat the region with snow, more than 4,000 flights have already been canceled. The markets affected include New York City, Newark, Boston, Washington D.C, Philadelphia and Baltimore.

One family who talked with CBS46 News says snow in Charlotte, North Carolina forced them to miss their flight to Atlanta.
