GM says Adrian Peterson's career with Vikings is over

It's part of the reason no Vikings running back had success last season - not even Peterson.

Peterson was a six-time Pro Bowler, a four-time All-Pro and the 2012 NFL MVP in 10 seasons with the Vikings.

"When I saw that maybe this could be a team that I'd be playing at, obviously you think about those different scenarios", Murray said. "Hope to get something done in next few days". "I'm just here to fish".

Murray goes on to say, "There wasn't a thought in my mind to try and wear or ask for the #28".

He reiterated that statement Thursday.

Murray arrived in Minnesota on Tuesday, met with the team on Wednesday and ultimately secured a deal by the wee hours Thursday morning. "You think about who is wearing 28".

"I'm going to wear No. 25 to represent my best friend that passed away a year ago during Thanksgiving, during the season", Murray explained. I'm not here to be #28, there's no one like him. "It was something I didn't need them to tell me".

He also wore the number in college and in high school.

When Minnesota made a major roster move in the middle of the night to sign running back Latavius Murray to a multi-year deal, one could connect the dots to know that running back Adrian Peterson's time in the Twin Cities was coming to an end.

"I've talked to Adrian", Spielman said. "We had a great conversation earlier today". He has a skill set that he believes can make him a three-down back. He will be called upon to help beef up the running attack after the Vikings finished last season last in the National Football League in rushing yards per game (75.3) and yards per carry (3.2).

Murray scored three touchdowns against the Broncos in Oakland in Week 9, tying a franchise record.

Holes were hardly ever open, and when they did find them, they were tiny.
