Obamacare support reaches record high as Republicans push for repeal

Over 200 Democrats and supporters of the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, rallied at the corner of USA 41 and Airport-Pulling Road Saturday morning, in response to President Donald Trump's efforts to repeal it. Rather than subsidize coverage based on income as the Affordable Care Act does, the GOP plan would provide tax credits based on age.

The replacement plan would have no individual mandate. Since 2010 more American have enrolled in health insurance coverage, resulting in historically low rates of uninsured.

On Friday, Politico reported on a new leaked draft of a House Republican bill that reveals some of the specific changes the party will be seeking to implement. The cost to Americans who must purchase insurance independently or help cover a share of employee-provided policies has been devastating.

Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., has long supported repealing Obamacare, saying last week that Americans "need to end up with a lot of choices, a lot of competition".

As pressure mounts on Republicans to act on healthcare, the White House vacillated Sunday on whether anyone now covered under the Affordable Care Act would lose their insurance. Americans are watching closely to see how much the Republican-controlled Congress will change the current system. That means poor young people now receiving subsidies under Obamacare could see that contribution slashed, possibly making coverage unaffordable, Bloomberg Politics reported.

Republicans are wrestling with how to fulfill President Donald Trump's campaign promise to roll back the law without eliminating its most popular components.

She says she rejects the option of repealing Obamacare without a replacement.

And while health care economists on both sides of the aisle favor tax-limits along those lines, politically it's a hard sell.

Eighty-four percent of respondents in a new Kaiser Family Foundation poll said it was important that federal support for the expansion remain in place. "They take that to a doctor who won't see them". That was the original goal of Obamacare, and the cost burden of doing so has been enormous - federal insurance subsidies reached an estimated $660 billion a year ago.

One of the hottest topics in Washington these days is healthcare.

GOP Gov. John Kasich of OH said, however, completely getting rid of the ACA is unacceptable "when you have 20 million people, or 700,000 people in my state, because where do the mentally ill go, where do the drug addicts go?"

"Obamacare has failed. We welcome any and all efforts to repeal and replace it that put patients first."
