Xbox exclusive action game Scalebound has been canceled

Microsoft Confirms Cancellation of Scalebound

Since then, the relationship between Microsoft and Osaka-based developer Platinum Games dramatically soured.

"Scalebound is one of the biggest games PlatinumGames has ever created: an epic adventure filled with exploration and fantasy gameplay, inventive multiplayer, and action-packed battles on an unbelievable scale - all set in a attractive and evolving world".

But updates about the game were rare and it was reportedly stuck in "development hell", according to gaming website Kotaku.

Of these, three have since been cancelled (Phantom Dust, Fable Legends and Scalebound) and one was closed (Project Spark). Xbox is left with Cuphead, Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves, Tacoma, and more as console exclusives this year.

A firm release date was never announced - but after four years in development, it seems that its launch day may never come, as Microsoft Studios announced that it has dropped its support for the title, which was destined to be exclusive to the Xbox One and Windows 10.

Little has been since of Crackdown 3 since August of 2015. It could be anything from a licensing issue to wanting to protect the IP until such a time that Platinum Games can work on it again.

Gamers got their first glimpse of Scalebound nearly three years ago at E3 in 2014. The follow-up to Undead Labs' sleeper hit is expected to expand on its unique take on the zombie survival genre with co-op play, but not much else is known.

You and your dragon are this world's final hope. He added that he has confidence in the current lineup of Xbox games, which remains the "focus" of the Xbox team.

Created to be exclusive to Microsoft, it was hoped it would drive gamers to the Xbox One over other consoles.

"In order to deliver on our ambitious vision and ensure that Scalebound lives up to expectations, we will be launching the game in 2017". Cuphead, The Culling, and several other titles have been announced so far.

Microsoft just confirmed that the game's future has been entirely snuffed out, with the game totally cancelled.

"Difficult decision, we believe result is better 4 [sic] Xbox gamers, still disappointing", Spencer wrote in response to a fan site tweet expressing disappointment at Scalebound's cancellation.
